TL:DR Love this product. It’s small, easy to use, picks up motion and responds quickly. And 100% worth the money. Very happy with this purchase.

I first want to mention that I use apple home with a HomePod mini as my hub. I set up the device on the home app without using the Aqara app at all. I got this motion detector for my bathroom hue lights. I wanted them to turn on at a very low brightness automatically when I walked in the bathroom and turn off when no motion is detected.

I needed the lights to turn on and off automatically as a nightlight when I come and go but I did not want them to turn off when I am actually using them at full brightness (it was very annoying to have them turn off when I am getting ready and step out of the bathroom for a minute or two).

The home app does not allow conditions to be used with their automations so I used an app called Home+ to set up this automation (which is the picture I uploaded). I set up the motion sensor to not input any command when the lights are set to anything besides off. Been using the motion sensor for 3 months and my setup works like a charm without any issues since instal. Apple home says battery is still at 100% (although I can’t guarantee accuracy). Would absolutely buy again.

I would reccomend these but also depends on what you’re using these for, I easily connected them to my aqara hub and haven’t had any issues with them disconnecting from my hub, and the battery life seems to be very long because they’ve been running for months without any issues. I also love the stick on feature it’s just like 3m tape you stick it to the wall easily and it works as intended. I designed it to turn on certain lights when motion is detected in a room, or to record a video when motion is detected in a certain area, making it great for security and they’re very small and look cool on the wall but also barely noticeable, if you have the hub and have other aqara accessories this pairs very well with them and the automations you can create are pretty cool, but if you don’t have the aqara brand products or hub I don’t know how well it works or if it would work at all.

Overall, this is a neat little motion sensor that runs by Matter over Thread.

It is exposed to various platforms as “occupancy” rather than motion not due to failings on the sensors part, but rather as the current limitations of the developing Matter Standard. Also, exposed to various platforms is the light/illuminance sensor.

All in all, it functions exactly as you would expect for a motion sensor to work. If there is motion, it gets triggered. Light levels only update as motion is triggered, not a constant update; I would imagine otherwise battery brain would be obscene.

(Important to note is: You do need to have a functional thread network set up for this device to work, as that’s the communication protocol of the device)

Visually, it’s a nice looking sensor. Small, solid feeling plastic casing, feels and looks nice

To pair, you can either scan the QR code provided on the booklet that’s enclosed, but if you lose that or your QR camera is not working, the booklet provides the numbers to input. ***As well as this the Matter Code is printed on the top of the sensor it is associated with.*** Nicely discrete but accessible, should the page of the booklet be misplaced.

The batteries are 2 (two) CR2450 coin batteries. As this is a brand new sensor, battery life is still to be determined, but even so it’s not something I’m too worried about. Even the “lower” estimate of two years depending on usage is nothing to sneeze at. I’d be more concerned if it was only estimated to last a few months.

The only thing I’m not too pleased with is the inability to adjust distance/level parameters of the sensor without the, at time of writing, unreleased Aqara M3 Hub

I got one of these to play around with some motion based Apple HomeKit automations. Like it so much I bought two more. They are freaky small. I fear they will be a bear to get the battery compartment open but I haven't cross that bridge yet. So 5 stars it is.

The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 (Matter over Thread) has been excellent in day-to-day use. Detection is fast, reliable, and noticeably quicker than older Zigbee sensors I’ve used. Motion triggers feel near-instant, and the built-in light sensor adds that extra layer of automation intelligence.

Battery life has been solid so far, and the device itself is compact and discreet — easy to tuck away without it looking like you’ve installed security for a small airport.

Matter pairing was straightforward and it integrated nicely into my smart home setup. Once connected, it’s stable and responsive.

However — and this is important — Thread isn’t magic Wi-Fi.

You absolutely need to respect Thread’s distance and mesh requirements. If you don’t have a proper Thread border router nearby (and enough Thread devices to form a mesh), range can be limited. It’s not going to punch through multiple thick walls just because it says “Matter” on the box.

Once placed within a sensible range of a border router, it’s rock solid. But if you’re planning to stick it in a far corner of the house with no Thread infrastructure nearby, expect disappointment.

So:
- Fast motion detection
- Light sensor is genuinely useful
- Matter over Thread works well
- Placement and mesh planning matter

If you already have a decent Thread network, this is a fantastic sensor. Just don’t treat Thread like long-range Wi-Fi and you’ll be very happy.

Would absolutely buy more — just strategically.

Accessoires au top, petit, bien fini, fiable. Bref comme tous les produits Aqara. Et surtout à un prix tout à fait abordable.

Par contre la sensibilité est faible (pourtant réglé sur Haut)

Funktioniert mit Google Home, mit dem Google Tv Streamer über Matter over Thread ohne Probleme. Hier wird keine zusätzliche Bridge mehr gebraucht. Aqara hat wirklich tolle Produkte. Bewegungsmelder und Lichtsensor werden angezeigt.

Bewegungsmelder mit sehr breitem 170° Erfassungswinkel und in Home Assistant über Thread auch noch sehr Batterieschonend.

Battery life is excellent - I’ve had mine almost a year and still >80% battery life. Integrated seamlessly with Home Assistant via Matter. Has been very stable, with no performance issues. I don’t have an Aqara Hub, HA was enough. Very small and unobtrusive. I’ll buy more when the time comes.

Super ist auch die Helligkeitsmessung in Lux für Automation.

Ich nutze den Aqara Bewegungsmelder & Lichtsensor P2 direkt mit einem Homey Pro über Matter, also ohne separaten Aqara-Hub. Das scheint eher die Minderheit zu sein, funktioniert aber problemlos.

Die Einbindung in Homey war unkompliziert. Der Sensor wurde schnell erkannt und lässt sich zuverlässig in Flows nutzen. Besonders für anwesenheitsgesteuerte Lichtautomatiken ist er sehr gut geeignet.

Die Bewegungserkennung reagiert schnell und zuverlässig, Fehltrigger sind bisher kaum ein Thema. Der integrierte Helligkeitssensor ist im Alltag extrem hilfreich, um Licht nur dann einzuschalten, wenn es wirklich dunkel genug ist. Genau so, wie man es in sauberen Automationen haben will.

Reaktionszeiten sind kurz, die Verbindung stabil. Seit der Installation läuft der Sensor unauffällig und zuverlässig, was im Smart Home eigentlich das höchste Lob ist.

Klar: Wer tief im Aqara-Ökosystem steckt, kann auch den Hub nutzen. Aber wer, wie ich, auf Homey Pro + Matter setzt und keinen zusätzlichen Hub möchte, bekommt hier einen sehr guten Sensor.

Fazit:
Zuverlässiger Bewegungs- und Lichtsensor, der auch mit Homey Pro ohne Aqara-Hub sauber funktioniert. Ideal für durchdachte, anwesenheitsbasierte Lichtautomationen. Klare Empfehlung.
