Favorite mmWave Sensor So Far!!

First, I’ve tried many of the millimeter wave and PIR sensors and they all have their issues. Hue, Sonoff, Moes, ThirdReality, Linptech, Meross, and Lafaer to name a few.

I have purchased over 20 of the Aqara FP300 sensors and have them in two different homes. I’m using them with the Zigbee protocol on my Hubitat Elevation Hub. It has taken some experimentation to get the settings right, and there are some quirks (like waking the device up with a button push before changing settings via Hubitat so the settings get saved), but once you get things dialed in, the sensors work very well. In some areas, I will execute a “Reset Presence” if the sensor stays active for longer than expected, but most of the time, the sensor works without this fallback.

I love the build quality of Aqara products and they look great compared to many other sensors. I’ve 3D printed sensor holders to try and make them blend in with things like my Sonos Arc (pictured).

Tiny and battery powered - Works great with Home Assistant!

I love this thing - I have it setup via Zigbee with ZHA on Home Assistant (Custom quirk required) as an office presence sensor and it's overall improved my presence automation for when I'm in the room working.

You do need the Aqara app to change it between Matter and Zigbee but after that it's adopted relatively easily into Home Assistant.

It's tiny and the battery life seems great. I've tested the temperature and humidity sensors on it as well and they seem relatively in-line with another sensor I have in the same room. Highly recommend for a tiny, battery powered presence sensor, as long as you don't need multi-object tracking.

Absolute Empfehlung!

Aqara FP300 Presence Sensor

A great, innovative device. When configured correctly, it works perfectly with the native Aqara app, and importantly, it can be perfectly integrated into the Home Assistant server using the Z2M add-on. As always, Aqara's design is excellent; the device can be easily mounted using the magnetic base or sticky pad. The battery replacement solution is also well thought out; it's now much easier—just press a small latch and rotate the base. As always, this store offers a great price, fast delivery, and the product is well-packaged. Thank you!

Fazit: Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Vorsicht: Es gibt zwei unterschiedliche Versionen - Sehr guter Präsenzsensor

Lieferumfang

Amazon (ASIN B0FG2MD3YP) liefert hier die Version PS-S04E. Siehe Produktspezifikationen!
Enthalten sind: Sensor, Handbuch, Sticker.
Keine Metallplatte, keine Schrauben, kein USB-Kabel.

Zigbee2MQTT stellt in Home Assistant aktuell 37 Entitäten bereit.

⸻

Fazit

Der Aqara FP300 bietet:
• präzise Distanzmessungen
• Erkennung von Mikro-Bewegung und Atmung
• hohe Reichweite bei richtigem Setup
• volle Funktionalität über Zigbee
• lokale Nutzung ohne Cloud
• virtuelle Zonen
• vollständige Unterstützung in Zigbee2MQTT

Wirklich: Wahnsinn!

Kann den Präsensensor also nur wärmstens Empfehlen!

Great Addition for Zigbee Enthusiasts. Easy Setup via the Aqara app and Home Assistant!

As someone who already owns several SNZB-06P sensors, I was really excited about the release of the Aqara FP300! The form factor is quite similar to the SNZB-06P, which I appreciate. One small difference: the base isn’t as magnetic as the SNZB-06P, but it still sticks easily to any magnetic surface, so mounting is no problem. Also it offers 3m sticky tape to mount it to any surface without drilling.

Function-wise, I’m still exploring all the possibilities for integrating it into my automations via Home Assistant. However, adding it to Home Assistant was surprisingly easy once I switched the FP300 to Zigbee mode using the Aqara app. The pairing process was smooth and quick.

I’ll be adding screenshots to show:
- The unboxing experience
- Size comparison with the SNZB-06P
- Configuration in the Aqara app for Zigbee
- Integration into Home Assistant
- All exposed elements visible via Zigbee2MQTT

So far, I’m impressed with the build quality and ease of setup. Looking forward to testing its full potential in my smart home automations!

Pros:
Compact design, similar to SNZB-06P
Easy Zigbee integration via Aqara app
Works well with Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT

Cons:
Base magnet is weaker than SNZB-06P, but still usable

Ignore the haters!

Works perfect. The people complaining don't seem to know what they are doing.

I have a dozen of these in my house and they all work perfectly.

They do take forever to do firmware updates though.

Best mm wave sensor out there

The problem with presence sensors is that many of them are inaccurate, most of them are very expensive, and the best majority of them are flaky when it comes to maintaining a connection. Having used at least four from other brands, I think I may have found the one that I am going to keep long-term.
This millimeter wave sensor is small by powerful. I like that it can be set up either with Zigby or thread protocols, (you can change to either of them in the Aqara app). I also like that you do not need an Aqara hub to control it, as long as you have something like Home Assistant or Homey. You can also connected directly to HomeKit if you select the thread protocol.
While the Zigby protocol is more stable and opens up a lot more customizations, it requires a proprietary Aqara hub, which I don’t have. However, for my needs to detect presence in my closet and my bathroom, they work well enough using the thread protocol.
I also really like the fact that this sensors use to coin cell batteries in order to keep size down. As far as the motion tracking, it is excellent. It is also very responsive, reacting within one second more or less of me, walking into the room they are located in.
I also like that, you can use them with HomeKit, Homey, smart things, Home Assistant, and probably other smart home solutions that use the thread protocol. Finally, at $49 the price is not too bad for what you get.
